A relatively young 4th generation blacksmith renowned around the world for his fully handmade, skillfully crafted knives based in Miki city. Shigeki Tanaka’s ancestors we re making sickles for 3 generations, before Shigeki taking over – after his father’s Kazuyuki death – and concentrating in knife crafting.
His SG2 (R2) / Damascus / Ironwood handle knives are considered unicorns among knife enthusiasts. Fully handcrafted at all stages, Tanaka is mastering the SG2 powder steel (at 63-64 HRC hardness), with a 33 layer Damascus finish and an impeccably worked out ironwood handle (one of the densest wood on earth).
Two inlaid mosaic rivets and a polished stainless-steel bolster are added to complete that masterpiece.
